Some of you experienced the failure “WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED” frequently when you try to login to Minerva by ssh userid@minerva.hpc.edu. In order to fix this issue, we will be changing one of the SSH host keys on the Minerva login nodes at 1:00 PM on July 26.
After the change, you may still see the same error message for one more time when you login to Minerva via SSH. If you see a failure message containing the line “WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!”, please rename (or edit/delete) your SSH known_hosts file on your local computer. For example:
On a Mac or Linux machine:
mv ~/.ssh/known_hosts ~/.ssh/known_hosts.old
For Window PuTTY users and more information on updating your host key file, please visit the guide at: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/217239087-Updating-host-keys
The next time you connect to Minerva via SSH, you will be prompted to accept the new key and you should not see the failure message again in future. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any question on this, please send us a ticket at hpchelp@hpc.mssm.edu
