Magazines

  • Able News: News By and For the Disability Community. Able News at The Viscardi Center is a news outlet and monthly digital publication that serves as a vital resource on disability and amplifies the perspectives of the diverse, vibrant disability community.
  • ABILITY Magazine: An award-winning publication, that provides new insights into our individual levels of ability. From diabetes to spinal cord injury to celebrity interviews to CEO profiles, ABILITY Magazine covers the latest on health, environmental protection, assistive technology, employment, sports, travel, universal design, mental health, and much more.
  • Disability Horizons: An online disability lifestyle publication that aims to give disabled people a voice. Founded by two disabled guys in 2011, Disability Horizons publishes articles on a wide variety of topics, all to support the aim of a world where disabled people live exactly as they choose to.

They cover a wide range of topics, from the basics of neurogenic bladder and its management to be in a relationship and dating, social justice, and even how your bladder is like a snowflake.   • Have the Nerve: A podcast by Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA), that aims to inform, educate, and empower people with disabilities, their families, carers, friends, and professionals in the disability sector.   • I’m Still Rolling: Mike Sugerman and Janice Wright’s Podcast, two life long broadcast reporters for CBS had their lives thrown into the cement mixer after 42 years of marriage. Mike had a post surgical spinal cord stroke that left him a paraplegic, and left Janice to care for him. But Mike kept on rolling. Support Groups

  • BACKBONES: A nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting individuals with spinal cord injuries and their families through peer support, community events, and mentorship programs. They offer resources, advocacy initiatives, and social opportunities to empower individuals and promote an inclusive society.
  • Reeve Foundation Peer & Family Support Program: A national peer-to-peer mentoring program providing emotional support as well as local and national information and resources to people living with paralysis, and their families and caregivers.
  • Spinal Cord Injury Peer Mentorship (SCIPM): Initiative at McGill University fosters collaboration among students, researchers, and community organizations to enhance and evaluate peer support programs for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
  • United Spinal Peer Support Program: United Spinal Association understands how vital peer support is for many wheelchair users living successfully in their communities. We offer a robust peer support program that includes one-on-one peer mentoringvirtual and in-person support group meetings.
  • WAGS of SCI: WAGS of SCI (Wives and Girlfriends of Spinal Cord Injury) is a community that provides support, advocacy, and resources for women who are partners of individuals with spinal cord injuries. They offer peer connections, educational resources, and a safe space to share experiences and challenges. Their mission is to raise awareness, foster empowerment, and improve the quality of life for both caregivers and their partners.
