We are pleased to announce that Dirk Hubmacher, Ph.D., has been named Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, as a faculty member of the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (ORL). Dr. Hubmacher’s NIH funded research efforts focus on studying how extracellular matrix proteins guide musculoskeletal tissue development, growth and homeostasis through the exploration of the mechanistic and molecular aspects of extracellular protein networks comprised of fibrillin microfibrils, ADAMTS proteases and ADAMTS-like proteins.

Dr. Hubmacher received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Lübeck (Germany) and he completed his postdoctoral training under the mentorship of Dr. Dieter Reinhardt at McGill University in Montreal (Canada). Dr. Hubmacher was an Assistant Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University where he worked with Dr. Suneel Apte on ADAMTS proteases, ADAMTS-like proteins and other extracellular matrix proteins. He is a member of the International Society for Matrix Biology and currently serves as an elected council member for the American Society of Matrix Biology.  Dr. Hubmacher joins the faculty of Mount Sinai to further his research and to establish strong collaborations with faculty within the Orthopaedics department and across the health system to better understand how extracellular matrix networks influence musculoskeletal development and can be harnessed to improve patient care and clinical outcomes of individuals with musculoskeletal disorders.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Hubmacher on his new appointment and welcoming him to Mount Sinai. Be sure to visit the Hubmacher Laboratory for more information and news!
