Thomas Rathner obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Medical University of Graz, Austria. His previous research centered around (immuno)-metabolism in cardiovascular disease. Since his graduation in 2024, he has broadened his experience by additionally serving as a clinical study investigator in the field of myocardial ischemia.
He joined the Swirski Lab with a Max Kade Postdoctoral Research Fellowship awarded by Max Kade Foundation/Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) in April 2025 to study brain-body interactions in cardiovascular disease. Outside of the lab, Thomas enjoys visiting botanical gardens and parks, cycling, and paddling surfski kajaks.
