Jeffrey Downey obtained a BSc in Physiology from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, graduating in 2013. In the last year of his studies, he investigated macrophage cell death programs in response to infection. In September 2013, he began his doctoral studies, also at McGill, on host defense to influenza A virus infection, which concluded in 2020. Dr. Downey joined the Swirski laboratory in February 2021 after receiving a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). His work will focus on viral infection and cardiovascular disease.
