Ana Coelho received a BSc in Applied Biology and an MSc in Health Sciences from the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. Her project focused on developing genetic tools to study cell division processes in the fungal pathogen Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. After the master’s degree, she was enrolled in a project that aimed to study invasive aspergillosis and human genetics, looking at different SNPs related to the NLRP3 inflammasome. She then moved to ITQB in Lisbon for an internship, where she worked with in vitro human-reconstructed epidermis and anti-inflammatory compounds. In 2018, she joined the Medical Inflammation Research laboratory at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, to pursue her Ph.D., which was focused on reactive oxygen species and their role in B cells and autoimmunity. She completed her degree in June 2023. She then joined the Swirski laboratory in May 2024 with a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swedish Research Council, where she will be focusing on the effects of diet on the immune system. Outside of the lab, Ana enjoys going to the gym, swimming, reading, and watching brain-dead Netflix.
