Alex is a postdoctoral fellow in the Swirski Lab, supported by a Walter Benjamin Fellowship of the German Research Foundation. He joined after completing medical school in Germany and also holds a BA in physics from Columbia University. Before joining Mount Sinai, Alex worked on dendritic spine plasticity after long-term anesthesia, wrote his doctoral dissertation on platelets in the spleen and did work on vascular immunobiology. At the institute, he combines his interests in cardioimmunology and neuroscience, and currently focuses on brain-body communication in cardiovascular disease. Outside of the lab, Alex loves biking and any other outdoor sports, exploring art exhibitions and jazz clubs in NYC, and traveling.
