About PSP

We established a hospital-wide Pathogen Surveillance Program (PSP) led by a multidisciplinary investigative team with a background in infectious disease, epidemiology, statistical modeling, and analyzing pathogen genomes and microbiomes. The PSP aims to use whole-genome sequencing as a means to understand the molecular basis of evolution and transmission of infectious diseases, host-pathogen interactions, and to identify novel pathogens. At the 2024 Mount Sinai Innovation Awards, the Pathogen Surveillance Program received the Dean’s Healthcare System Team Science Award for their multidisciplinary efforts (see photo).
