Ruhollah Shemirani is postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Genomic Health at Icahn school of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He Got his PhD in Computer Science from the Information Science Institute at Viterbi School of Engineering of University of Southern California. His main research interests lie in the fields of statistical and population genetics. His research focuses on the use of genetic data to make inferences about population history, especially in admixed populations, and its applications in discovery and risk prediction.

Christa Caggiano, PhD
Post Doctoral Research Fellow

Learn more...

Christa Caggiano, PhD, is a computational geneticist interested in developing equitable genomic tools that translate to the clinic. She received her B.S. in biological physics and art history from Brandeis University. She obtained her PhD in bioinformatics from UCLA where her research focused on designing algorithms and technology for cell-free DNA screening applications, and studying the genetic and environmental risk of populations living in Los Angeles. Christa’s postdoctoral research focuses on using diverse biobanks to study monogenic disease in underrepresented populations.

Sarah Hanks, PhD
Post Doctoral Research Fellow

Sarah Hanks is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the lab of Dr. Eimear Kenny in the Institute for Genomic Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She received a BA in Mathematics and Statistics from Barnard College and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan, where she worked with Dr. Michael Boehnke and Dr. Laura Scott on the development and evaluation of statistical methods for the analysis of large-scale genetic and genomic sequence data. Her current research interests lie in the intersection of statistical methodology, genetic epidemiology, and translational genetic research.

Bryce Rowan, MS
Doctoral Candidate

Learn more...

Bryce Rowan is a 4th year PhD Candidate co-mentored by Joseph Buxbaum and Eimear Kenny. He is a Genetic Epidemiologist who has worked in clinical spaces for sickle cell disease and nephrological diseases prior to joining the PhD. He worked on biobank data including BioVU and the Million Veterans Program. His research interest are in the intersection of functional genomics and population genetics of psychiatric disease in order to reduce health disparities in treating historically marginalized populations.
