We are looking for enthusiastic, scientifically curious researchers to work in the lab of Dr. Paulina Pawlica at the ISMMS in NYC. In the Pawlica lab we use a combination of RNA biochemistry, bioinformatics and molecular virology to understand the RNA-centric virus-host interaction (more @ https://labs.icahn.mssm.edu/pawlicalab). The Pawlica lab is funded by a generous start-up package and an R00 grant from NIH. The Department of Microbiology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine is a leader in viral research and offers an inspiring and collaborative environment.

  1. Postdoctoral Position

The successful candidate will have a research background in RNA biology demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additional desired skills include: programming and big data analysis, experience in viral culture (herpesviruses).

  1. Research Associate

The ideal candidate is an organized, technically skilled individual who will be responsible for performing experiments (with a possibility of having an independent project) and helping to manage the laboratory. This would be an excellent role for a recent college graduate who desires to gain additional years of hands-on research experience before pursuing graduate school.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
  • Perform some independent research, based on capability.
  • Help with lab organization and other support duties relating to lab operations, as required.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology or a related discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year hands-onlaboratory experience is required (i.e. PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, etc.). Please note that taking a class is not counted as hands-on experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

If you are interested in these positions, please send your CV, including contact information for three references, to: paulina.pawlica@mssm.edu. Underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
