We are looking for enthusiastic, scientifically curious researchers to join the laboratory of Dr. Paulina Pawlica at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
The Pawlica Lab uses RNA biochemistry, molecular virology, genomics, and computational approaches to study RNA-centered mechanisms of virus-host interactions. Our work focuses on how viral noncoding RNAs and host RNA regulatory pathways control gene expression during coronavirus and herpesvirus infections.
Postdoctoral Position
Join the Pawlica Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai if you are interested in uncovering how viruses use RNA to hijack host pathways, regulate host and viral processes, and teach us about host RNA biology. We are part of the highly collaborative Department of Microbiology and the vibrant network of RNA scientists across New York City.
Our lab studies how viral noncoding RNAs, conserved RNA elements, small RNAs, and host RNA-binding proteins regulate post-transcriptional gene expression. More specifically, we study herpesviral noncoding RNAs, miRNAs, regulatory RNA elements in SARS-CoV-2 and measles virus, and RNA-protein interactions, with a focus on PUMILIO proteins and ILF3/NF90-family proteins. Approaches include molecular virology, RNA biology, and bioinformatics.
Applicants should have a strong research background in RNA biology, molecular biology, virology, or a related field, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with methods such as CLIP and ribosome profiling is especially desirable. Recent PhD graduates are especially encouraged to apply.

Research Technician
We are seeking an enthusiastic and scientifically curious research technician to support projects on the roles of noncoding RNAs in viral infection.
The ideal candidate is organized, technically skilled, and interested in gaining hands-on research experience in molecular biology, RNA biology, and virology. The technician will perform experiments, help maintain laboratory organization, and may have the opportunity to contribute to an independent research project. This position is well suited for a recent college graduate seeking additional research experience before applying to graduate school or medical school.
Principal Responsibilities
- Perform routine molecular biology and cell culture experiments.
- Assist with experiments related to RNA biology, molecular virology, and gene regulation.
- Perform independent research tasks, depending on experience and capability.
- Help with lab organization, reagent preparation, ordering, and other laboratory support duties.
Qualifications
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related discipline is required.
Experience
- At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience is required.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, RNA work, or cell culture, is required.
- Experience with RNA biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, or virology is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow protocols carefully and troubleshoot experiments.
