Welcome to the Kaufman Laboratory

The Kaufman laboratory has been continuously funded by the NIH for more than 20 years. We focus on identifying the genetic and molecular mechanisms that drive the development and progression of kidney disease. We utilize genetics and multiomic biology to identify molecular targets that protect kidney cells from injury. The physiological and pathophysiological functions of these targets are dissected using a variety of approaches including in animal models and are then validated in human tissue, human biosamples, and existing longitudinal clinical cohorts. Our goal is to develop novel pharmacological strategies for patients with chronic kidney disease.

Lewis Kaufman, MD, is a Professor in the Division of Nephrology at Mount Sinai. The Kaufman lab has a variety of projects in all stages of development that are ideal for all levels of trainees including post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and nephrology fellows.
