He is also a faculty member of Tisch Cancer Institute, Black Family Stem Cell Institute, and Precision Immunology Institute. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, he was an Associate Professor at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School and a Principal Faculty member at Harvard Stem Cell Institute. He obtained a PhD degree in Mathematics from University of Maryland, where he studied the theory of chaotic dynamical systems. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Brown University and then briefly as a research scientist at National Centers for Environmental Prediction. He was attracted to genomics by the genomic revolution at around the millennium, and decided to switch field by taking up a postdoctoral fellow position at Harvard University. There, he helped build the first high-resolution, genome-scale nucleosome positioning map in eukaryotic cells and discovered a number of fundamental, evolutionarily conserved principles. Dr. Yuan’s Lab has developed numerous computational methods for analyzing and integrating genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data and collaborated with experimental biologists and clinicians to gain systems-level insights into the cell-state control mechanisms in development and diseases. Dr. Yuan has been a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2023.

Dr. Guo-Cheng Yuan is a Professor of Computational Biology at Department of Genetics and Genomics at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
