ABOUT US

Overview

The Center for Integrative Medicine for Allergies and Wellness focuses on researching the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including herbal medicines and acupuncture, on specific allergic disorders: asthma, food allergies, and atopic dermatitis.

The mission of the center is to:

  • Explore complementary and alternative healing practices in the context of rigorous science.
  • Train complementary and alternative medicine researchers.
  • Disseminate authoritative information to the public and professionals.

We have ongoing clinical trials for asthma and food allergies, and are planning trials in other areas. The center also provides services for patients interested in TCM, but do not qualify for any of the clinical trials.

The center has also established a Botanical Chemistry lab with advanced equipment and technology to better understand the combination of the herbal products and to develop novel pharmaceutical drugs.

We have big plans for the future. In addition to an ambitious research agenda, we are going to try to train clinicians in the practice of integrative medicine for treating allergies and other immune diseases, to include an acupuncture course for MDs and a fellowship for doctors interested in combining both Eastern and Western traditions.

Dr. Li’s lab is continually refreshed by new, eager visiting fellows and anchored by a team of veterans.
