Postdoctoral fellow in biostatistics/bioinformatics

An exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral biostatistician/bioinformatician is available in the research group of Dr Ernest Turro in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. The postholder will develop and apply statistical approaches for modelling whole-genome sequencing (WGS), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), epigenetic data and clinical data to identify the genetic determinants of rare diseases. The research environment in Dr Turro’s group will provide ample opportunities to work on both individual and team projects, with excellent publication prospects and opportunities for personal growth. The postholder will be supported by an R01 grant awarded to Dr Turro by the NIH NHLBI and work in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Cambridge, KU Leuven, the University of Exeter and the University of Bristol.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in the quantitative sciences and have strong statistical and programming proficiency with proven expertise in genomic analysis, including the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and statistical approaches in genomics. Knowledge of bioinformatics software tools and databases for genetic analyses is a strong advantage. Experience working on a high-performance computing cluster is essential. The successful candidate will be familiar with commonly used software packages in the biological sciences and will have experience in using and, ideally, developing R or Python bioinformatics packages. The candidate will also have strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work productively as a member of a team. A personal motivation to understand the biological bases of rare diseases is desired. Fluency in English is required.

A competitive salary ($80,000–$85,000/year) commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including subsidised accommodation worth in the region of $15,000/year in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, will be provided.
