{"id":107,"date":"2018-08-31T14:34:14","date_gmt":"2018-08-31T14:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/labs.icahn.mssm.edu\/tsankovalab\/?page_id=107"},"modified":"2026-01-27T23:31:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T23:31:01","slug":"recognitions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/labs.icahn.mssm.edu\/tsankovalab\/recognitions\/","title":{"rendered":"Recognitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to two new members of the lab, <strong>Dr. Mohammad Imran Khalil Khan<\/strong> (who joined in May of 2025) and <strong>Dr. Debdatta Halder<\/strong> (who joined in December of 2025).<\/p>\n<p>We are so grateful to receive foundation funding for the next 3 years to develop <strong>new models of Glioblastoma Residual Disease at the Tumor Resection Margin<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Balu Pai&#8217;s<\/strong> study &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1158\/0008-5472.CAN-24-4708\">Spatial Multiomics Defines a Shared Tumor Infiltrative Signature at the Resection Margin in High-Grade Gliomas<\/a>&#8221; was published in <em>Cancer Research<\/em>. This was a true team effort and tour de force and we are grateful to everyone for their help, including our long-standing computational collaborators Elena Zaslavsky and Vincy Cheng for their expertise and guidance, Susana Ramos for scATAC-seq analysis, and Dr. Ramund Yong from neuro-surgery for providing precious samples with extensive resection margin that made this analysis possible.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to<strong> Thenzing Silva-Hurtado. <\/strong>His abstract titled, &#8220;Improving glioblastoma survival by combining YAP-TEAD inhibitors with surgical resection in preclinical xenograft models&#8221; was selected for The American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP) Trainee Travel <span class=\"mark042g2dile\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Award<\/span>\u00a0for the hybrid AANP 101st Annual Meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good buy to Balu and Susana. A<\/strong>fter a long tenure in the lab, they have moved on to senior scientist \/ postdoc positions in Germany and the UK. We will miss them dearly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Balu was awarded best poster presentation at the 2024 SNO meeting for his abstract on spatial multi-omics profiling of the infiltrative margin in GBM. <strong>Congrats, Balu!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Tsankova lab received renewed NIH R01 funding <\/strong>for the next 5 years. We continue our focused efforts to harness YAP-TEAD activity as anti-invasion therapeutic in Human GBM !!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nadia Tsankova became <strong>tenured<\/strong> as a Professor in Pathology! This means free breakfast at lab meeting \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Susana&#8217;s<\/strong> abstract was awarded and selected for oral presentation at the Mount Sinai Pathology Research Day. Congrats to Susana!<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Balu Pai&#8217;s <\/strong>paper &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/36274170\/\">High\u2011resolution transcriptomics informs glial pathology in human temporal lobe epilepsy<\/a>&#8221; was published in Acta Neuropathologica Communications! We thanks Jessica for initiating this project and our fantastic long-term collaborator Elena Zaslavsky, and Vincy Cheng and German Nudelman in her group, for their continuous help!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Susana Ramos&#8217;s<\/strong> work on <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/36509746\/\">resolving human fetal gliogenesis through single nucleus transcriptomics is now out in Nature Communications<\/a>! We thank Elisa and Zarmeen for their great help with this project, and computational collaborator Dr. Alex Tsankov and his group for their help and guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to our new postdoc, Dr. <strong>Thenzing Silva<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Marie<\/strong>&#8216;s work on the anti-invasive therapeutic efficacy of the FDA-approved Hippo inhibitor <strong>Verteporfin<\/strong> has been published in Neuro-Oncology!<\/p>\n<p>Years of hard work and dedication will hopefully bring us one step closer to offering patients effective treatment for this dismal disease!<\/p>\n<p>What an honor!<strong> Zarmeen<\/strong>&#8216;s abstract &#8220;Single-nuclei transcriptomics relates glioblastoma infiltration to distinct glial progenitor states&#8221; has been selected for oral presentation at this year&#8217;s SNO meeting at Boston. Congrats, Zarmeen!<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to <strong>Tanvi Joshi<\/strong> for defending her master&#8217;s thesis! Brilliant job!<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to <strong>Tanvi Joshi<\/strong> for being the recipient of the Women in Science Travel Scholarship!<\/p>\n<p>We won the <strong>Rubenstein Award<\/strong> for best paper on neuro-oncology presented at the 2021 AANP meeting! Shout out to Zarmeen and her helpers!<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to our new postdoc, Dr. <strong>Balu (Balagopal) Pai<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to our new postdoc, Dr. Susana Isabel Ramos! Susana bring neurodevelopmental expertise and will be characterizing glial lineage drivers during prenatal human development and the co-option of developmental programs, such as Hippo signaling, in glioblastoma.<\/p>\n<p>Zarmeen&#8217;s abstract has been selected for oral presentation and live seminar on single cell omics at the 2020 SNO conference. Congratulations, Zarmeen, on outstanding work!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Dr. Anne Marie Barrette, Ph.D., for her brilliant thesis defense !<\/p>\n<p>The lab was awarded a second R01 from the Brain Initiative to characterize the dynamic chromatin topology, transcription factor binding, and kinetics during human glial neurodevelopment, with single cell resolution!<\/p>\n<p>The lab was awarded R01 funding from the NINDS to study the crosstalk between Hippo and EGFR signaling pathways in GBM!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anne Marie received Best Oral Presentation award at the Pharmacological Science Retreat!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lab was awarded two NIH grants to study the role of glial dysfunction in GBM and in Epilepsy.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tome-Garcia is the 2017 recipient of the Joseph Schein Fellowship in Experimental\/Molecular Pathology.
