The objective of the Lung Cancer Discovery Award is to support independent investigators conducting clinical, laboratory, epidemiological or any groundbreaking project aimed at revolutionizing our current\u00a0 understanding of lung cancer and improving diagnostic, clinical and treatment methods.<br \/>\nNo more than 75% of the requested budget may be used for an awardee\u2019s salary and\/or fringe benefits and no more than 30% of the total award budget may be used to fund the purchase of permanent equipment. Grant funds may be used for the salary and fringe benefit costs of personnel other than the Applicant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Dates<\/strong><br \/>\nJuly 12, 2018 Applications accepted through proposalCENTRAL<br \/>\nOctober 3, 2018 Deadline to submit Letter of Intent (LOI) is Wednesday, October 3, 2018 (11:59 PM, Eastern Time)<br \/>\nDecember 13, 2018 Deadline to submit an application is Thursday, December 13, 2018 (11:59 PM, Eastern Time)<br \/>\nFebruary- April Peer Review Period<br \/>\nJune 2019 Funding notifications are sent to all applicants<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Citizenship<\/span><br \/>\nAt the time of application, candidates must be United States citizens or foreign nationals holding one of the following visa immigration statuses: permanent resident (Green Card), exchange visitor (J-1), temporary worker in<br \/>\na specialty occupation (H-1B), Canadian or Mexican citizen engaging in professional activities (TN), Australians in\u00a0Specialty Occupation (E-3) or temporary worker with extraordinary abilities in the sciences (O-1). At the time of\u00a0application and throughout the award, an applicant must be employed by a U.S. institution.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Education and Experience<\/span><br \/>\nAt the time of application, an applicant must hold a doctoral degree, have a faculty appointment at an academic institution (including research institutions not formally associated with a university), and have completed a<br \/>\ntraining fellowship. Applicants may be at any level of research experience; must be independent, self-directed researchers for whom their institution must provide space and other resources customary for independent<br \/>\ninvestigators.
