NeuroAIDS Research at Mount Sinai is steadily growing.\u00a0 Below are some of our local friends and collaborators in the field. Our neuroimaging research is conducted on a 3T scanner at the BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII) <\/a> — Mount Sinai’s state-of-the-art imaging facility.\u00a0 Search the website for additional information on available research facilities, including our 7T scanner and integrated PET\/MR scanner.<\/p>\n The Friedman Brain Institute<\/a> (FBI) at Mount Sinai is one of the world\u2019s premier institutions dedicated to advancing our understanding of brain and spinal cord disorders.\u00a0 Be sure to check out their events calendar here<\/a>.<\/p>\n We’re teaming up with folks from around the nation, through collaborations with the Center for\u00a0Translational & Prevention Science<\/a> (CTAPS), to better understand how childhood adversity “gets under the skin” and leads to negative health outcomes in adulthood.\u00a0 You can read a NY Times article written by the CTAPS Director, Dr. Gene Brody, and fellow CTAPS scientists, Drs. Miller and Chen, on this topic here<\/a>.<\/p>\n We’re also fostering ties with colleagues at Mount Sinai’s Addiction Institute<\/a> to better understand how substance use impacts brain functions in the context of HIV and in those without HIV.<\/p>\n Much of our research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Mental Health<\/a> (NIMH) in particular.\u00a0 The NIMH website has a lot of interesting information about new research findings.\u00a0 Of particular interest to us is the information they provide on HIV research<\/a> and depression<\/a>, to name a few.<\/p>\n Also, where would we be without the folks from AFNI<\/a> to get us through the day?!\u00a0 And also chocolate, purely for its potential neuroprotective qualities<\/a>, of course.<\/p>\n
