Dr. Clark is honored to be speaking at Black In Neuro<\/a> Manhattan’s Panel Event on May 5, 2023 where she will discuss her career path in<\/span>\u00a0neuro<\/span>science and how her identity has shaped her in<\/span>teractions within the field. This event brings together students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and scientists from across NYC, including the Columbia Neuroscience Society<\/a>, Friedman Brain Institute<\/a> at Mount Sinai, and many others, to consider issues of diversity and equity in neuroscience.<\/p>\n

Drs. Uraina Clark & Yasmin Hurd are organizing an upcoming panel discussion, “Strategizing for Research Success & Equity,” a conversation to follow up on the publication, Addressing racism and disparities in the biomedical sciences<\/em><\/a>, by Drs. Clark & Hurd, with speakers: Stephanie Tankou, MD, PhD; Kirk Campbell, MD; Yasmin Hurd<\/span>, PhD; and\u00a0Uraina\u00a0Clark<\/span>, PhD<\/span>, to be held on Feb 9, 2023 via Zoom. The discussion will consider strategies for crafting a successful research career as well as enhancing equity within this space. Audience participation is welcomed during this interactive Q&A session. Students and trainees of all levels are encouraged to join. The panel discussion is hosted by Mount Sinai’s Students for Equal Opportunity in Medicine (SEOM) and Students for Equal Opportunity in Science<\/a> (SEOS).<\/p>\n

Dr. Clark has been recognized as a Rising Star and has received an invitation to attend the National Institute on Aging<\/a>\/American Geriatrics Society<\/a>‘s Bench-to-Bedside Conference in Bethesda, MD. The conference is part of a series of prestigious scientific conferences<\/a> on emerging issues in geriatrics. At the conference, Dr. Clark will present her recent research findings on the neural correlates of memory impairments in adults.<\/p>\n

Dr. Keenan Walker presented his recent research findings at the annual Society for Neuroscience<\/a> meeting in San Diego, California. Dr. Walker’s talk was entitled, “Examining the effect of HIV on measures of medial prefrontal cortex functioning.” Keenan conducted this research in our laboratory as a predoctoral Mount Sinai Institute for NeuroAIDS Disparities<\/a> (MSINAD) Scholar; he is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n

Our Research Receives a Blue Ribbon Award<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our recent submission to the 124th American Psychological Association<\/a> (APA) Annual Convention was ranked among the best papers received by APA Division 40, and has been chosen to receive a Blue Ribbon Award. This award is distributed by the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology<\/a> (Division 40), the largest division of the APA. Only 3 papers were selected to receive this award from over 60 entries. Dr. Clark presented our award winning paper, entitled \u201cReaction Time Variability is Sensitive to High Early-Life Stress in HIV+ Adults,\u201d at the APA convention on August 4, 2016.<\/p>\n

Dr. Uraina Clark Recognized by the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre in London
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Clark was one of 11 women honored with a Suffrage Science award<\/a> from the Clinical Sciences Centre<\/a>, a premier research institute of the Medical Research Council<\/a> in the United Kingdom. Suffrage Science awards are given to leading researchers in the life sciences in recognition of their scientific achievements and ability to inspire others. Dr. Clark recently received a NIDA P30 pilot award from the Center for Translational and Prevention Science<\/a> (CTAPS) at the University of Georgia. With this award Dr. Clark will conduct a new study that will examine the effects of stress on the brain.<\/p>\n

Ms. Baker’s research is a collaborative effort with Dr. Clark and the Mount Sinai MHBB<\/a> research team.<\/p>\n

Mr. Keenan Walker, MA, a graduate student in clinical psychology at St. John’s University, was recently awarded a Mount Sinai Institute for NeuroAIDS Disparities<\/a> (MSINAD) scholar grant to conduct his research study entitled, “An Examination of Executive Dysfunction Associated with Frontostriatal Circuitry in a Diverse HIV+ Sample,” at Mount Sinai under the mentorship of Dr. Clark. Congratulations Keenan!<\/p>\n

Ms. Hannah Riskin-Jones, BA, will be presenting her research findings at the 2014 Cognitive Aging Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms.\u00a0Riskin-Jones’s poster is entitled, “New tool for quantification of white matter hyperintensities.” This research project was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Clark and colleagues at Brown University.<\/p>\n

Dr. Uraina Clark Wins Consortium in Brain Research Award<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Clark recently received a joint award from Mount Sinai’s Friedman Brain Institute<\/a> and UCLA’s Brain Research Institute<\/a> to conduct a collaborative research project with Drs. Edythe London and Keith Heinzerling at UCLA. The group plans to examine the effects of early-life stress and HIV on neuroinflammation in the context of methamphetamine use disorder.<\/p>\n
