His expertise lies in cancer cell biology, with a particular focus on the functional genomics of oncogenic drivers that contribute to cancer progression and metastasis. During his graduate studies under the mentorship of Dr. Gopal Kundu at the National Centre for Cell Science in India, Dr. Chakraborty’s research focused on tumor angiogenesis. He later joined the Department of Cell Biology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York as a postdoctoral researcher, working with Dr. Filippo Giancotti\u2019s group to investigate cellular plasticity, dormancy, and cancer metastasis. Subsequently, he joined Dr. Philip W. Kantoff\u2019s team in the Department of Medicine at MSKCC, where he was promoted to faculty (Assistant Attending). In recognition of his contributions to DNA damage repair and prostate cancer research, Dr. Chakraborty received the Young Investigator Award (Class of 2019) from the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF). His research has played a pivotal role in identifying and establishing the functional impact of PIK3R1 mutations and metabolic reprogramming in lethal cancer. Since joining the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, he has continued to advance the understanding of prostate cancer biology and explore innovative treatment strategies for patients. Throughout his career, Dr. Chakraborty has maintained a strong portfolio of federally and foundation-funded research in cancer biology. The success of his interdisciplinary research is evident in his peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Cell, Cancer Cell, Clinical Cancer Research, PNAS, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cell Reports, Cancer Research, Oncogene, and others, as well as two patent filings. Her research focuses on understanding DNA damage repair mechanisms in prostate cancer cells, specifically how these cells repair DNA breaks when androgen signaling is modulated. She also examines how alterations in the BRCA2 gene, including deletions and mutations, influence androgen signaling\u2014a process critical to the growth of prostate cancer. Currently, Dr. Chaudhary is investigating strategies to enhance the effectiveness of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) who harbor mutations in BRCA2 or other DDR genes within their tumors.
