Dr. Christopher Cardozo is a practicing physician specializing in Pulmonary Diseases, and a clinician scientist. He received his BS from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) College of Engineering and his MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Director of the Spinal Cord Damage Research Center at James J Peters VA Medical Center (JJPVA), and Staff Physician at JJPVA. The overall goal of his research is to improve function and quality of life of people living with spinal cord injury and other disabilities. His current pre-clinical research focuses on developing small molecules that reduce tissue damage after neurotrauma including spinal cord injury, alleviate pain and promote repair of damaged peripheral nerves. His clinical research evaluates the ability of FDA-approved medications to prevent bone loss acutely after SCI and to rebuild bone that has been lost as a result of the immobilization caused by SCI.<\/p>\n
