Daniel Blanco-Melo

Daniel Blanco-Melo did his bachelor degree in Genomic Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and completed his Ph.D. studies in the laboratory of Paul Bieniasz at the Rockefeller University in New York. As part of his Ph.D. thesis, Daniel specialized in paleovirology by studying the retroviral “fossil record” embedded in primate genomes. Currently, Daniel is doing his postdoctoral studies in the tenOever lab where he is using last generation sequencing technologies to address questions involving the innate immune defenses and the co-evolution of viruses and hosts. Daniel is an Open Philanthropy Fellow of the Life Sciences Research Foundation.
