Online brain atlases (MRI, human)

So you’re in the market for a good interactive MRI brain atlas that’s free and available online, are you…?   Well, look no further!  We can suggest two very solid options for you.

Harvard University has a relatively good atlas located here.  In addition to the atlas, the rest of their website is worth some browsing.  They have a ton of MRI images, characterizing various neurological conditions (e.g., AIDS dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s diseaseToxoplasmosis, etc.) using a variety of imaging modalities (T1, T2, SPECT, etc.).

Michigan State University’s online atlas is also very good.  Once you click on an “MRI” image, you can click on the “labeled” link to see labeled structures in that slice.  MRI images are shown with corresponding stained whole brain sections that are also labeled.  They also have a database of QuickTime movies that allow you to examine the brain, slice by slice, in various planes.

Happy viewing!
